Both Arrow Media and Arrow Pictures' programmes continue to receive widespread acclaim.
Arrow Media's Under the Wire has received a raft of awards and nominations including winning the Phoenix Award at Cologne Film Festival and the Focal Award for Best Use of Footage in a Factual or Natural World Production; as well as nominations in the British Independent Film Awards, the Grierson Awards, the Content Innovation Awards, the One World Media Awards and the Amnesty Media Awards. Landmark space project Live from Space won the BAFTA Digital Creativity Award, the Royal Television Society Science and Natural History Award and the Sir Arthur Clarke Award for Space Achievement Media: Broadcast and Written Award. Body Cam was nominated for the Content Innovation Awards, whilst America in Color was shortlisted for the Broadcast Tech Innovation Awards 2019 for Creative Excellence in Restoration. The Arrow Media team also have a raft of awards under their belt including Creative Director Tom Brisley's BAFTA for Tsunami: Caught on Camera and New York TV Awards Gold for Seconds from Disaster.
Arrow Pictures' Sherpa, picked up five awards including Best Documentary at the London Film Festival and a Best Documentary nomination at the BAFTA Film Awards and A Year of British Murder was shortlisted for the Content Innovation Awards. In addition to his Arrow Pictures work, John Smithson was an Oscar® nominee for Best Motion Picture of the Year for Danny Boyle’s 127 Hours, a film he originated and produced. The film was nominated for 86 Awards including 6 Oscars, 9 BAFTAs and 15 other wins. He produced the renowned theatrical documentary Touching the Void, which won the BAFTA for Outstanding British Film and broke box-office records. John’s documentary credits include The Beckoning Silence, winner of the International Emmy for Outstanding Achievement in Documentary; BAFTA-nominated The Falling Man; Best Cinema Documentary winner Deep Water in the Grierson Awards; Emmy-nominated Time Travel with Stephen Hawking; and the multi-award-winning HBO documentary Thrilla in Manilla, winner of a Peabody Award.
