In the Eye of the Storm explores recent natural disasters as they happened in real time through video captured by eyewitnesses who found themselves in the wrong place at the right time and boldly held up their camera phones to capture the eye of the storm.
Each episode reveals never-before-seen onlooker footage of dangerously close calls with recent tornado outbreaks, megastorms like 2021’s Hurricane Ida, and the 2023 Maui Wildfires driven by hurricane-force winds.
Stories include ordinary people filming their own brushes with death as a monstrous system unleashes destructive tornadoes in Lewistown, Illinois; eyewitnesses from Louisiana to New York City filming harrowing encounters with tornadoes and flooding when Hurrican Ida impacted half the country in 2021; and civilians taking to the sea for any chance of survival when a hurricane turned a small wildfire into an inferno in Hawaii.
